Cabarete Dominican Republic photo galleryCabarete is located on the Dominican Republic's northern coast, this
former fishing village has evolved into a hot destination for watersports
enthusiasts. Protected from the high seas by breakwater reefs and bathed
year-round by easterly breezes, the magnificent Cabarete Bay is an ideal
place for top-flight windsurfing competitions, like the World Cup and
Race Week, snorkeling or simply lolling on the beach. The surrounding
area lends itself to other activities such as mountain biking, hiking
and cave-exploring, and there are several local tour operators that cater
to adventure travelers. June-October is the optimum windsurfing and kitesurfing
season, although fierce Caribbean hurricanes tend to sweep over the Dominican
Republic between August and October. Cabarete is about 15 minutes from
Puerto Plata International Airport and 15 miles (24 kilometers) east of
Sosua.
